The year the media died

This title aptly speak to the epidemic deaths of a number of traditional media houses (newspapers and magazines) in the USA at the end of 2008 and during the first half of 2009 with no end in site. Is this just a faze that we can blame in on the recession and the economic slump and slowdown ?

Or is it, when faced with a tight budget, not a lots of money, that this trend tells us that traditional media is not always the value for money. Watch this video - performed on the catchy tune of “American pie”. Well performed, with subtitles - to drive the message home that with the economic slowdown it has become clear and apparent that the media landscape has changed - although we were not always aware of it.

Enjoy the video. Learn from it. Be forewarned.

Lots of foke says this will not happen to emerging economies like South Africa, especially those in traditional media.

I say, be forewarned - learn from the lessons from the States. With the perfect storm - better infrastructure - and a savvy consumer looking to get more bang for his buck, a couple of years down the line - it just might be happening on our shores as well.
